가전제품 중에서도 가장 오랜 역사를 가진 제품 중 하나는 바로 ‘선풍기’입니다. 에어컨이 설치된 집에서도 여전히 여러 개의 선풍기를 함께 사용하는 경우가 많습니다. 라이프 스타일이 변화하면서 선풍기는 크기와 용도에 따라 세분화되고, 매년 다양한 신제품이 시장에 쏟아져 나오고 있습니다.

Mark&Draw의 3-Way Fan은 출시된 지 5년이 된 제품입니다. 이 제품은 휴대용 선풍기로, 외출 시 가지고 다니며 사용하는 제품입니다. 휴대용 제품은 개발 시 많은 제약 조건 속에서 디자인될 수밖에 없습니다. 가볍고 작아야 하며, 긴 사용 시간을 보장할 수 있도록 디자인되어야 합니다. 휴대용 선풍기 제품은 디자인 트렌드와 변화하는 소비자의 취향도 반영되어야 하기에, 매년 새로운 디자인으로 다시 출시되는 것이 특징입니다.Mark&Draw의 3-Way Fan은 이러한 고민과 함께, 제품 개발 초기 단계부터 ‘비교 가능한 활용성’을 디자인에 반영하고자 했습니다. 먼저, 다양한 환경에서의 사용자 불편을 관찰하고, 그것을 형태와 구조적 측면에서 해결하고자 했습니다.

사람들은 외출 시 휴대용 선풍기를 사용합니다. 하지만 대중교통 이용 중 자리에 앉지 못한 경우, 가방이나 손잡이를 붙잡아야 하고, 스마트폰을 조작하거나 책을 읽는 경우도 있습니다. 이러한 사용자 불편 요소들을 관찰하고, 해결책을 찾은 뒤, 이를 디자인에 반영하였고 기존 휴대용 선풍기에는 볼 수 없었던 각도 조절기능을 넣어 3-Way Fan을 디자인하였습니다. 각도를 조절 할 수 있는 3-Way Fan은 테이블 위에 세울 수 있으며, 목에 걸고 사용할 수 있어 양손을 자유롭게 사용할 수 있습니다.  3-Way-Fan은 사용자 불편을 해결하면서도 시간이 지나도 트렌드에 민감하게 반응하지 않도록 최소한의 요소로 디자인 되었습니다. 그 결과 3-Way fan은 시장이 다른 제품들과는 달리 디자인 변경없이도 소비자들이 찾는 베스트 셀러 제품으로 자리잡았습니다.

One of the home appliances with the longest history is the fan. Even in homes equipped with air conditioning, it’s common to see multiple fans used together. As lifestyles have changed, fans have become more diversified in size and purpose, and every year, a variety of new products are released into the market.

Mark&Draw’s 3-Way Fan has been on the market for five years. It is a portable fan designed to be carried and used while on the go. Portable products like this are developed under many constraints—they must be lightweight, compact, and offer long battery life. Because portable fans must also reflect design trends and the changing tastes of consumers, they are typically re-released with new designs every year. However, Mark&Draw’s 3-Way Fan was developed with a different approach. From the early stages of development, the goal was to reflect “comparative usability” in the design. We observed various user inconveniences in real-life situations and sought to solve these problems through thoughtful form and structural design.

People often use portable fans outdoors, including on public transportation. But when standing in a crowded bus or subway, people have to hold onto their belongings or handrails, and may also use their phones or read a book. To address these inconveniences, we introduced an adjustable fan angle—something rarely found in portable fans—and designed the 3-Way Fan accordingly. Thanks to its adjustable angle, the 3-Way Fan can be placed stably on a table or worn around the neck, allowing for hands-free use. While solving user pain points, it was also designed with minimal aesthetics that would not be overly sensitive to fleeting design trends. As a result, unlike many other portable fans that require frequent updates to remain appealing, the 3-Way Fan has become a long-standing bestseller without any major design changes.
